Just Random Thoughts about Children and Family

Motherhood - If it was going to be easy, it never would have started with something called labor!
Shouting to make your children obey is like using the horn to steer your car, and you get about the same results.
To be in your children's memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today. (I Learned this too late, the price is way too much.)

The smartest advice on raising children is to enjoy them while they are still on your side.

Avenge yourself - live long enough to be a problem to your children.

The right temperature in a home is maintained by warm hearts, not by hot heads.

Any child can tell you that the sole purpose of a middle name is so he can tell when he's really in trouble.

Grandparents are similar to a piece of string -- handy to have around and easily wrapped around the fingers of grandchildren.

A child outgrows your lap, but never outgrows your heart.

God gave you two ears and one mouth... so you should listen twice as much as you talk.

Adolescence is the age when children try to bring up their parents.

You know the only people in this world who are always sure about the proper way to raise children? Those who've never had any.

Money isn't everything, but it sure keeps the kids in touch.

Adolescence is the age at which children stop asking questions because they know all the answers.

Kids really brighten a household; they never turn off any lights.

(Your piece on children was really fine. You only used the word "kids" once. I am very proud of you.

Our swift, busy society / community tries to convince itself that they young are the most impoortant PROJECT going, all the while too lazy to refer tp the young with two syllables, using--even in therapy and heath books the desultory term "kids".

I am really proud to see you eschewed this practice.

And, not at all argumentatively, I would urge you to surrender to the inescapable fact that you are MOSTLY the product of your DNA...Your genes.

The Nature/Nurture debate is over. Nature won.

There are no more "behaviourist" psychologists. Evolutionary Biology and Socio-Biology are the sum total of everything non-spiritual we know about ourselves.

The most recent "final words" have been written by the Great Edward O. Wilson: The Future of Life, James Q. Wilson, The Moral Sense and Robert Wright "Non-Net Zero".

Greatest books written since 1960.

I am trying to do for you what you are doing for me..

Love

Daddy
